The Wednesday Word

fa·cade

noun \fə-ˈsäd\

1 : the front of a building; also : any face of a building given special architectural treatment
: a false, superficial or artificial appearance or effect

French façade, from Italian facciata, from faccia face, from Vulgar Latin *facia

First Known Use: circa 1681
This word fascinates me because it’s seemingly French and its meaning can be used in such different ways and means face in its barest sense. The face of a building or at face value when dealing with people and situations.

I think this is a great word to incorporate into your work.

Some uses of the word:
The facade of the building scintillated in the sunlight.

Her facade was shattered as he told her he knew the truth about her spending sprees and bad credit.
